Fátima Nunes

Born in Lisbon (Portugal), Maria de Fátima Nunes graduated in Clinical Physiology (cardiac and pulmonary function – Bachelor’s degree) at Escola Superior de Tecnologia da Saúde de Lisboa. She began her music studies at 4 years old. In 1997, she entered in Instituto Gregoriano de Lisboa where she studied piano with Ilda Ortin Rodrigues. She followed the International Course of Vocal Music – Aveiro in the categories of Singing (with Claire Vangelist) and Choir Conducting (with Paulo Lourenço). As a soloist, she has participated in many concerts with repertoire from the renaissance to classicism, notably in the role of “Ixion” in the opera La descent d’Orfée aus enfers (M.A. Charpentier), “Student” in Der Jasager (K.Weil), soloist in Messe Basse (G. Fauré) and “Third Maid” in Elektra (Strauss) performed in Festival Aix-en-Provence.

She received a Master’s degree in Choral Conducting (2010-2012) from the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, studying with Paulo Lourenço (PhD at the University of Cincinnati). In 2014, she recorded the album “Requiem Capuana – Rubino” with Choeur du Chambre de Namur, under Leonardo G. Alarcon. She performed several programmes with Grupo Vocal Olisipo and Officium Ensemble. At the moment, she is a member of the Gulbenkian Choir (since 2009), teacher in workshops of voice and choral music for children in Gulbenkian Foundation and conductor of the Academia de Amadores de Música of children and youth choirs (since 2011).
